| Tiger going after Nicklaus--again |
|
Tiger Woods recently announced that he is getting into the course design business. What a surprise!
Tiger Woods has spent his entire life--even as a youngster--plotting how to win more majors than Jack Nicklaus. After another huge year in 2006, he is only six victories away from equaling Jack's mark of 18 majors. And Tiger is only 30 years old. Within three years, Tiger will stand alone--officially--as the world's greatest golfer ever. No arguments, please. But with the recent announcement that Tiger has formed a course design company, he is now competing against Jack in the business arena. Winning this contest will be a lot tougher for Tiger. Jack was recently named by GOLF, INC. Magazine as the most powerful person in golf, and has designed more than 200 hundred courses worldwide. He gets about $2 million per course design. Our guess here at Business Under Par is that Tiger is more selective about his projects, and that when Nicklaus got into the design game, golf course building was a booming business and new to many parts of the world. That may not be the case these days. Tiger will build a few golf monuments here in the states in due time, but with his popularity all over the world, our guess is that he builds in China and other parts of the world as well, maybe even focusing there first. Tiger will get to Jack's mark of 18 majors, but designing more than 200 courses? Now that's a tall order. |
